A postal worker picking up mail in addition to the day’s receipts from four Roxbury post offices was abducted inside his postal truck and instructed by the robber to drive to a parking lot. Postal Inspector Ken Walker said the driver had picked up bags from post offices at Grove Hall, Uphams Corner, Roxbury and Mission Hill before the robber struck. The postal truck was looted after being hijacked on Malcolm X Boulevard.

Swiss Post Innovates With Virtual Counter. Swiss Post put a new service online to make life easier for its customers. Switzerland’s postal authority is aiming to give Internet users faster access to the services, information and products they need. “The virtual counter was put online on Thursday and at the moment it is innovative mainly in its design and the aspect of play,” company spokeswoman Nathalie Salamin told swissinfo.

DMA Calls for Caution Over Postal Review. The DMA has warned the government not to place an “unrealistic burden” on businesses to fund a universal postal service when it publishes its review next year. Secretary of state for business John Hutton announced the review on 17 December, outlining the government’s commitment to maintain the universal service while investigating the impact of opening the postal market to competition two years ago.

Russian Post worked out special working schedule of post offices for the period from 31st December till 8th January 2008. On 2nd of January post offices of 1st class work from 8 a.m. till 9 p.m. or by 12 p.m. As for post offices of 2nd, 3rd and 4th class this day is declared as a holiday. On January 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th post offices work on the week-day schedule.
