War Letters: 4th of July, 1945

Wednesday, 23.05.2007

You should have heard of the two world wars that made people suffer and sacrifice their lives for peace.

It would be interested to know how people communicated and lived?! I don’t know for sure, I wasn’t an eye-witness of these terrible events, but …

What am I driving at? Folks write different messages at all times. Of course, it’s hard for some of us to get into the way of writing emails, or vice versa, paper letters.

Apparently, we should ourselves choose the way we want our relatives, friends, or business partners to get news from us.

Letters written by hand are worthy of attention. Those people who wrote letters in the war, they wrote them as if these envelopes were the last thing in their lives.

Have a look at this letter which was written in 1945.

Dear Judy!
How is my best girl today? Here it is darling, another 4th of July without you, may it be the last next year we be together for keeps. I’ve had the day off today and all I’ve done so far is stare out of the window, its a bad day, not raining but looking like at any moment it will. Golly if I were home on the 4th, I’d either spend my time at a ball game or going to a picnic with you with me. Well that is another thing, I’ll have to make up for. Tonight I am going to the Albert Hall in Hesington Bob hope and his Hollywood troupe is going to be there. I imagine this is his only appearance in London as he is heading towards Germany and France. He is my favourtite commedian so I am looking forward to seeing his show. Well darling, I’m afraid I’ll have to close for now. Take care of yourself. I love you very much and am looking forward to seeing you soon.

Love and Kisses,
George

Harry Potter Stamps

Monday, 21.05.2007

I wonder how many folks like fairy tales? Harry Potter’s screen versions look nice. What would you say if the boy wizard appeared on stamps? The novels by J.K.Rowling made an impression on children and people all over the globe.

Britain’s Royal Mail is issuing a series of seven stamps depicting the covers of the best-selling “Harry Potter” books just before the final volume goes on sale.

Having said that, it’s important to add that millions of the stamps will be issued on July 17. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” goes on sale July 21.

At the same time the French postal Service and Warner Bros. Consumer Products  issued a special set of 10 stamps?! Enjoy it!

You will behold with your own eyes the faces of famous wizards. Among them are Harry (of course), Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, the collection costs $8.10.

To be immortalized on a postal stamp ranks among the highest of honors,” said Brad Globe, prexy of WB Consumer Products.

Air Mail: U.S. Air Mail Service History

Thursday, 10.05.2007

All of us have to know heroes by sight. The people who started delivering the mail by air, that laid the foundation for commercial aviation all over the world.

The organization I’m talking about is the U.S. Air Mail Service, which did its best. They battled wind and snow in order to deliver messages with speed.

Perhaps the most important point, however, is that people keep it in their memory, giving these pilots due. With the cooperation of the U.S. Air Service, the U.S. Post Office flew the mail from 1918 until 1927.

What’s more, all the information about this service available on the web site AirMailPioneers.com, including the names of those who worked for the U.S. Air Mail Service between 1918 and 1927.
